Course descriptions

INTRO to ENGINEERING DESIGN - IED (Year, 1 credit, grades 11, 12)               HONONEGAH COURSE #723
This is a Project Lead the Way (PLTW), high school based engineering and technology class. This course will cover the basics of all design skills including: sketching, processing and Computer Aided Design (CAD) using the 3- D modeling program Inventor. Students will be using computer hardware and software to complete and generate a working CAD drawing. Hands-on projects will include Puzzle Cube design challenge, Reverse Engineering, and a team design challenge. Math and research skills will be stressed and used on a regular basis. Course content will include documentation, research sketching, drawing, modeling/prototyping, design principles/elements, reverse engineering, marketing, and testing. IED fulfills the computer education graduation requirement. There will be a fee of $25 for student project materials. Students can earn dual credit from Rock Valley College for this class. RVC charges a $50 course fee. Students can earn dual credit from St. Cloud State University for this class. St. Cloud State University charges a $100 fee. Aligns with IL State Course 21006A001 Introduction to Engineering Design.

M-F 2:25 - 3:15 PM  INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING DESIGN

COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING - CIM (Year, 1 credit, grade 12)                      HONONEGAH COURSE #703
This is a project Lead the Way (PLTW), high school based engineering and technology class. CIM is a course that applies the principles of robotics and automation to Computer Aided Design (CAD). Students will use Computer Numerical Control (CNC) equipment to produce actual models of their three-dimensional designs. Fundamental concepts of robotics used in automated manufacturing, and design analysis are included. Students will also be using state of the art manual mills, lathes, and other manufacturing equipment. There will be a fee of up to $50 ($25 with donated aluminum) for student project materials. Students can earn dual credit from St. Cloud State University for this class. St. Cloud State University charges a $100 course fee.​ ​Aligns with IL State Course 21010A001 Computer Integrated Manufacturing.
This course requires a pre-requisite: Intro to Engineering Design or Principles of Engineering
