Course description
EXPLORATORY VETERINARY MEDICINE (Year, 1 credit, grade 12 only)
This two-semester course sequence provides high school seniors with foundational and advanced knowledge in veterinary medicine, animal care, and the small and companion animal industry. Students will explore veterinary terminology, anatomy and physiology, animal handling and restraint, diagnostics, surgical nursing, pharmacology, and animal services to humans.
Hands-on skills are emphasized alongside computer literacy, workplace readiness, and leadership development through Career Development Events (CDEs) and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects. Upon completion, students will be prepared for entry-level animal health careers or further education in veterinary technology, animal science, or pre-veterinary pathways. Includes training for Fear-Free certification. Aligns with IL State Courses 18105A001 Veterinary Science and 18105A003 Advanced Veterinary Science.
